Ein/ausgepackt
For the exhibition “ein/ausgepackt. The Benjamin Children’s Book Collection”, which presented the newly digitized children’s book collection of Walter Benjamin, a sound composition was created as a form of soundtrack accompanying the exhibition.
Inspired by the illustrated fairy tales and non-fiction books, as well as by the remarkable journey of the collection itself, the sounds of antique music boxes and various toys — including toy steam locomotives, marble runs, spinning tops, and other kinetic children’s objects — were selected as compositional material. Through this acoustic layer, visitors were invited into the moments of unpacking and repacking the archive, allowing the emotional traces carried by the books to become perceptible in a poetic way.
