How to design a radio show about electro-acoustic music with Nikki Buzzi & Felicia Herrschaft

Designing "Axiom. Wissenschaftsredaktion on Radio X" — a collaborative radio podcast.

I was invited by Felicia Herrschaft to develop a radio series that explores the intersection of science and music composition.

Last summer’s conversation with Nikki Buzzi explored the evolving landscape of electro-acoustic music composition and the vital role of chance, the unexpected and the unplanned within it, moving seamlessly between technical craft, storytelling, and the cultural forces that shape what gets heard. Nikki shared practical insights from his own practice—approaches to field recording, layering textures in context, and balancing intent with serendipity. We also considered how sound can challenge norms, create empathy, and open space for underrepresented voices, closing with concrete ideas for collaborations, mentorship, and projects that center diverse perspectives in sonic work.

The following conversation took place in German.

  • Felicia Herrschaft, Nadia Lucas und Renata Martins - Creators of the program “Axiom”

  • Nikki Buzzi is a composer, performer and sound artist based in Zurich, Switzerland, and Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
